Former actor Xie Shaoguang made a rare public appearance last Saturday as part of a group of about 70 seasoned actors and backstage crew members who got together for a sentimental afternoon.
Photos from a Mid-Autumn Festival celebration at a restaurant were posted on social media last Saturday by local actress Chen Xiuhuan and ex-actor Wu Weiqiang. In 2023, the festival will be held on September 29.
Wu wrote in Chinese on Facebook last Saturday with the title, "Mid-Autumn gathering with old colleagues from SBC," about a group of former coworkers who used to work at the TV station in Caldecott Hill in the 1980s and produce a number of TV series, sitcoms and TV films for Singaporean TV audiences.
It's possible that people still recall these classic dramas and the actors who portrayed them from that era.
Mediacorp's forebears include the Singapore Broadcasting Corporation (SBC) and the Television Corporation of Singapore (TCS).
The Singaporean news station's former headquarters were at Caldecott Hill. Now you may find it at 1 Stars Avenue.
According to Wu (now 76), he and his former coworkers occasionally get together to talk about the good old days.
Pan Lingling, Jin Yinji, and Wang Yuqing, all of whom are currently working actors, were among the attendees of the artists' meeting last Saturday.
Xie, Tang Hu, Yang Libing, Hong Guorui, Zhang Jinhua, and Jin Jugong were among the other well-known figures present.
Several videos from the event, including one of former TV host Zhu Yongqing leading a charades game based on TV show titles, were posted to Wu's Facebook page.
Xie, 62, has won the Star Award for Best Actor five times. In one of the videos, he is shown holding up five fingers and pointing to his right leg.
Those in attendance immediately recognised the scene as being from the 1987 drama Five Foot Way, which starred the late Huang Wenyong, Wang, Huang Peiru, and Ye Sumei.
Social media user Chen, 57, described the event as "very lively," and she briefly spoke with Xie, according to the Shin Min Daily News. Since leaving the entertainment industry and relocating to Malaysia, he has maintained a low profile.

"I asked him what he was doing recently, and he said he was not doing much," she added to the Chinese language daily. I asked him if he still goes mountaineering because I ran across him twice in recent years. He agreed with me.
Chen Xiang, a former actor, has claimed that he has been hosting similar get-togethers since 2016.
"Everyone was busy with their families in middle age," he said, adding that he contacted his former coworkers on Facebook. "Now that the children are grown and they have more time, I took the opportunity to hold the gatherings."
He claimed he was responsible for planning the gatherings for two years before Jaslyn Theen took over; he added that Hong is now the primary planner.
He also mentioned that Xie had returned to Singapore, albeit he did not know for how long.
